Pat
Oleszko
Lecture: Monday, October 24
Workshop: October 24 - 28
Pat Oleszko makes a spectacle of herself and doesn’t mind if you
laugh. Utilizing elaborate costumes and props, she has created a multitude
of lithe performances, films and installations that address trees, knees,
breasts, butts, elephants and fingers. She has worked from the popular
art forms of the street, party, parade and burlesque house to the Museum
of Modern Art, Sesame Street Magazine, Ms., Playboy and Artforum.
Recently she spent a year in Italy as a recipient of the Rome Prize that
resulted in much controversy and an inimitable evening in jail for posing
as The Nincompope. Oleszko continues her efforts pumping irony, disparately
trying to “bring home the beacon- the truth squirts.”
Wearing
Spectacles: Mo' Better Visions
This workshop
will concentrate on making costumes for Day of the Dead celebrations on
November 2nd in Santa Fe. Open to families, students, artists and educators
of all kinds. "This low tech hi performantz workshop goes straight
for the jocular. In view of the upcoming celebrations of Halloween, All
Saints, Souls and Insane Daze, we will literally a-dress issues both looming
and blooming. Ideas personal, political, pervasive, abrasive and/or invasive
will be translated into walking squawking mediums of message."
"More is more, more or less. Bring lots of everything, a plethora
of stuff, masses of the crass and uncared for, including the ever-necessary
tools, cardboard, paints, fabric, sewing machines, glue guns and other
handy folderol for fixin's. If you have hidden talents, now's the time
to turn those bits into pieces. It's Jest 'artin' around in a public way,
mind overt messes in-Sanity Fe.”
