Colette
Lecture: Monday, September 19
Workshop: September 19 - 23
With the intention of blurring the distinction between art and life, Colette
has also selected unorthodox art spaces to create her fantasy installations:
the streets, shop windows, her own home, boutiques, clubs, restaurants,
warehouses, etc. The artist’s fashion interventions include designing
the Deadly Feminine Line for Fiorucci (1979), sets and costumes
for the Berlin Opera (1985) and, currently the transformation of an entire
floor of a Tokyo store into the ultimate woman’s shopping fantasy
“The Bedroom” for HPGRP- building Ginza (2004), a pink satin
environment with her new fashion line set amongst her paintings and light
sculptures.
Switching
Idioms
"Central to my work often referred to as "Gusemptkunstwerk"
is the idea of multiplying mediums. Switching from photography to paintings
to video to performance to sculpture to installing work and often incorporating
and including fashion and sound and even smell occasionally." In
this workshop, participants will experiment in transferring the message
of their work into another medium foreign to their use- almost as in a
game or as in a situation of necessity where one needs to create and is
limited or forced to discover another medium. Various materials will be
used and discussed.
