Michelle
Laflamme-Childs, Deputy Director
MMichelle
grew up in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts but has called Santa
Fe home for almost 20 years. She holds a BA in English Literature from
the University of Massachusetts, an MA from St. John's College in Santa
Fe, and is currently working on a MFA in Creative Writing at the
University of Texas, El Paso. She is a poet and essayist with one
published chapbook and a book-length manuscript in the works. After 25
years in corporate brand and direct marketing, Michelle fled the
for-profit world to bring her skills to bear at the SFAI as the Deputy
Director and she couldn’t be happier. With a passionate belief that art
truly does have the power to change the world and that it can bring
complex social, cultural, and environmental issues to a broad audience,
Michelle approaches every project she undertakes with the goal of
empowering voices, engaging community, and making idea-driven
contemporary art accessible.
