Lisa Donahue, Education and Outreach Assistant

Lisa Donahue was born and raised in Chicago, IL. She identifies as a queer Latina activist, poet and spoken word performer. Starting at a young age she worked on issues of gentrification of Chicago neighborhoods and on immigrant rights, participated in walk-outs and protests against the Iraq war and the School of the Americas, and organized for the Chicago Dyke March. She was on a slam team at Francis W. Parker high school, where she performed at various venues including the Chicago Historical Society for the Louder Than a Bomb Teen Poetry Festival. Her inspiration for her writing comes from her diverse upbringing, the importance of storytelling and community, and the necessity of art as a form of social activism.
